Official! Erick Thohir Menpora Baru Replaces Dito Ariotedjo

JAKARTA Erick Thohir was officially appointed to serve as the new Minister of Youth and Sports (Menpora) by President Prabowo Subianto in the Revised Cabinet Volume II. He replaced Dito Ariotedjo.

The 55-year-old businessman was inaugurated by President Prabowo Subianto along with a number of other ministers at the State Palace in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, evening WIB.

Erick was previously the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN). However, he had to be released from that position before occupying his new seat.

Apart from being the Minister of SOEs, Erick is also the General Chairperson of PSSI for the 2023-2027 term of service. However, the position of the Minister of Youth and Sports forced him to leave the position.

The position of Minister of Youth and Sports has been vacant since the previous minister Dito Ariotedjo was hit by a raid on September 8 along with five other ministers.

A number of names of Dito successions had surfaced after the reshuffle was carried out, including Putri Anetta Komarudin and celebrity Raffi Ahmad. The last name reportedly rejected the important position offer.

Erick is a very active figure in the field of sports. He previously served as General Chair of the All-Indonesian Basketball Association (Perbasi) from 2006 to 2010.

In addition, he also held the position of President of the Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA), Chef de Mission (CdM) of the Indonesian contingent at the 2012 London Olympics, and Chairman of the Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) for the 2015-2019 period.

Erick also played the Chairperson of the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games and served as Inter Milan Club President from 2013 to 2018.

Erick Thohir already has a number of homework in sight after occupying the Menpora seat, one of which is the preparation of the 2025 SEA Games in Thailand at the end of this year.
