Building The Future Of Morosi Village Through Education
JAKARTA - Education is often referred to as the key to opening the door to a better future. This is also how the people of Morosi Village, Morosi District, Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, have experienced major changes in the past decade thanks to various initiatives that provide wider opportunities for children to learn properly and dream higher.
One of them, real support is realized through the construction of the Hope Elementary School or SDN 1 Porara in Morosi Village which was thoroughly renovated by Chinese entrepreneur Tony Zhou, with a donation fund of CNY 5 million yuan or equivalent to Rp11 billion through the Andrew Zhu & Tony Zhou Foundation.
As a result, the school, which was built since November 2022 and completed in January 2024, now has 16 classrooms, 22 teachers, and 500 students, with 107 new students registered in the 2025 school year. Education at SDN 1 Porara is also provided free of charge, making it easier for children to learn access in Morosi.
Israni, Head of SDN 1 Porara, recalled the condition of the school before it was renovated.
"Since I arrived, there have been hundreds of students, only three study classrooms. It has started to get restless and restless, children sit on the floor," he said on Monday, September 15.
With an area of 4,500 square meters and a concrete structure reinforced with cast on-site cast, this school meets international safety standards with an intensity of seismic fortification of up to 8 degrees. The two-story building has 20 rooms, including classrooms, offices, toilets, and activity rooms. The facilities are complete, ranging from tables, props, to sports equipment, with a capacity of 600 teachers and students.
Budi Santoso, Head of Morosi Village, emphasized that all of these efforts were in line with the message that Tony Zhou always conveyed,
"What I never forget, Mr. Tony always says that education is very important. Because through education can change the fate of society for the better," he said.
