Although Urged By Trump, The European Union Can't Leave Russian Oil And Gas Before 2027
JAKARTA - EU countries will most likely not completely leave Russian oil before 2027, although US President Donald Trump demands that all NATO members stop buying oil from Russia.
Politico reported this by quoting two European Union diplomats.
As reported by ANTARA from Sputnik/RIA Novosti-OANA, Tuesday, September 16, Trump previously said he was prepared to impose "big" sanctions on Russia as all NATO countries do the same and stop buying Russian oil.
Trump's demand to leave Russian oil created additional leverage to pressure Hungary and Slovakia to reduce their dependence on Moscow, the report said.
The two EU diplomats told Politico that some countries believe additional pressure will help them focus on current proposals aimed at fully ending the EU's dependence on Russian energy by 2027.
However, they continued, the European Union will most likely not advance the deadline for leaving Russian oil or adding an official ban on Russia's oil supply into the proposal.
In early May, the European Commission proposed a gradual elimination of Russian energy resources, including LNG, oil, and nuclear fuel, by the end of 2027.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said in July the two countries would continue cooperation to maintain supplies of oil and gas from Russia.
Russia has warned the West has made serious mistakes by refusing to buy Russian hydrocarbon products.
Moscow claims the West will have a new dependence on oil from other sources of stronger supply at higher prices, or those who refuse to buy Russian oil and gas will buy it at a higher price than third parties.
