China's AI Technology Threatens To Dominate Submarines In Sea War

JAKARTA - The development of artificial intelligence (AI) reduces the chances of submarines surviving marine battles to only 5 percent.

Citing research in China, the South China Morning Post newspaper said a team of scientists led by senior engineer Meng Hao from China's Helicopter Research and Development Institute in August developed an AI-based anti-submarine defense system capable of tracking submarines, even the quietest.

This capability lowers the chances of submarines surviving attacks by up to 5 percent. This means that only one in 20 submarines can escape tracking and attack, according to the report.

Reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 16, the AI system developed by Chinese scientists collected data from the ponobuoy used to track underwater signals, underwater sensors, radar, and information about water salt temperatures and levels.

The system then determines how to adjust the equipment and respond when the submarine tries to escape by zig-zag, silence, or sending a false signal.

In computer simulations, the success of the AI system to track enemy submarines reached around 95 percent, the report said.

The era of the invisible submarine, which has long been considered the main pillar of the immune force at sea, may end soon, scientists say.
