PIS Signs Cooperation With The Ministry Of Foreign Affairs, Protects The Safety Of Seafarers From Geopolitical Emergency
PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) strengthens its commitment to protecting its workers on duty abroad through strategic cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, by signing an Emergency Protection and Handling Service Cooperation Agreement.
Through this cooperation agreement, PIS now has a synergy basis in protecting and handling emergency situations faced by company personnel abroad.
The cooperation between the two institutions was signed by the CEO of PIS Surya Tri Harto and the Director of Protection for Indonesian Citizens (PWNI) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Judha Nugraha, and witnessed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia Arief Havas Oegroseno, last Monday, September 15. By signing this, PIS hopes that the synergy and coordination, response, and preparedness of protecting its crew abroad will increase.
"Through this agreement, we can exchange data owned by PIS and we have it, it can become one data that we manage together to determine the next steps in dealing with emergency conditions," said Deputy Foreign Minister Havas Oegroseno, Tuesday, September 16.
As previously known, PIS continues to encourage itself to increase business opportunities from non-captive markets that run smoothly. This can be seen from PIS's non-captive income, which was originally 4 percent in 2021 to 19 percent in 2024.
The business strategy is supported by the operation of 106 proprietary ships, to ensure the smooth distribution of energy on domestic and international routes. The strength of the fleet is none other than to support the number of international shipping routes that have now reached 65 international routes, and are supported by as many as 6,000 officers, some of whom are on duty abroad, to support energy security.
"We, as representatives of Indonesia and countries abroad, have a responsibility to provide protection for Indonesian citizens abroad, both on land and ships," added Havas.
Simultaneously, PIS CEO Surya Tri Harto added that this cooperation agreement is a necessity for workers abroad, especially for PIS crews. Especially in the current geopolitical context which poses a number of extra risks.
"This is an effective step for us in the future so that our sailors feel protected. The state is present, as well as companies that are also part of the country, which assign crew members, to attend," he continued.

Moreover, he continued, currently PIS has branch offices in Singapore, Dubai and London. He hopes that with this agreement, PIS employees on duty can feel the protection efforts that have been carried out as well as possible, especially in the midst of dynamic and rapidly changing geopolitical conditions and at any time there can be an escalation that makes the government have to take steps.
In addition, PIS emphasized that the commitment to protecting the workforce is in line with the sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
"This effort supports SDG point 3, namely Healthy and Prosperous Life, by ensuring the health and safety of the crew serving abroad, as well as contributing to SDG point 8, namely decent work and economic growth, through creating a safe, productive, and global competitive work climate," he said.
