12 Soldiers Killed, Pakistan Overthrows 31 Taliban Militants On Afghanistan Border

JAKARTA - Pakistan's military crushes local Taliban militants on the border between its country and Afghanistan after the number is said to have increased in the region.

Citing AFP, Tuesday, September 16, 31 militants were reportedly killed in operations carried out over the weekend.

The operation came after 12 soldiers died in an ambush claimed by Pakistani Taliban militants (TTP) in neighboring districts on Saturday last week.

Pakistan accused its arch-enemy, India, which engaged in a four-day battle with Pakistan in May, of supporting TTP militants, called "Khwarij" by Pakistan.

The two nuclear-armed neighboring countries have long accused each other of supporting militant forces to destabilize each other.

"Hamar operations are underway to eliminate other Indian-sponsored militants" in the region, a Pakistani military statement published Monday evening said.
