Social Minister Reveals 600,000 Troubled Accounts Can Receive Social Assistance Again

JAKARTA - Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) revealed the reason that around 600 thousand accounts suspected of having problems were still given the opportunity to receive social assistance (bansos) from the Ministry of Social Affairs again if they completed the data verification and updating process.

Gus Ipul explained that his party found that some of the accounts for the recipients of the social assistance were indicated to have misused aid, while others were allegedly only used by their data by other parties or experienced administrative errors.

Some of them really abuse, say, one of them is online gambling transactions, but some are used by other parties. Therefore, we give the opportunity to update the data," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 15.

The Ministry of Social Affairs assessed that the context of the policy is to ensure that all assistance can actually reach the beneficiaries who are the lowest or poorest welfare or vulnerable families, not merely punishing by stopping their social assistance.

"What, for example, are families that still depend on government intervention? Otherwise, their lives are very difficult? That's why we open up opportunities for verification. If after verification they are proven to meet the criteria, of course they are still entitled to receive social assistance," he said.

The Ministry of Social Affairs cooperates with many parties such as financial authorities, local governments to the village level to assist the re-verification process accurately, transparently including in its supervisory efforts.

In addition, Saifullah said that the accompanying officers of the Family Hope Program (KPM) were also empowered so that the inspection process would be transparent and in accordance with procedures that took place during the third quarter.

"After verification is complete, the fourth quarter of those who meet the criteria can receive social assistance. Of course, we will continue to monitor them," said the Minister of Social Affairs.

Previously, the Ministry of Social Affairs announced that as many as 600 thousand accounts of social assistance recipients were indicated as anomalies, including the involvement of online gambling by the Financial Transaction Reports and Analysis Center (PPATK).

Of this amount, the Ministry of Social Affairs last August stated that it had crossed out as many as 228,000 accounts from the social assistance distribution list.

The rest, more than 375 thousand accounts are still in the deepening stage by examining the profiles of recipients, work identities, and transaction activities.

The Minister of Social Affairs emphasized that this step is in line with Presidential Instruction Number 4 of 2025 which directs that social assistance be distributed on target based on accurate, mutakhi, and verified data.
