Audi Reportedly Cancels E-tron Hospital Project, Focuses On More Aggressive S6 E-trons

JAKARTA There is interesting news from Audi about the latest speculation regarding electrification strategies. Based on the latest report, this German manufacturer is thought to have canceled the development of a fully electric e-tron hospital model, such as RS 6 e-tron and RS Q6 e-tron. Instead, Audi seems to be optimizing the existing S6 e-tron variant, by adding a more powerful version.

Citing AutoExpress, Monday, September 15, this news emerged after the latest version of the S6 e-tron prototype was seen on the streets with larger wheels and a more aggressive display, raising many questions. Meanwhile, the Audi prototype RS 5 and RS 6 Avant with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) machines continued to be seen undergoing intensive testing.

Analysis from industry experts shows several reasons behind Audi's strategic steps, one of which is high development costs. It is known, the Hospital Model, especially the Avant variant, is known to have a special body that requires very expensive development and production costs.

In addition, the e-tron hospital model will face very high expectations from consumers regarding performance, distance, and driving dynamics. Meeting these standards requires massive investment.

Audi itself admits that the high-performance electric vehicle market is too small to support various models. By consolidating its product lines, Audi can focus on more business promising models.

S6 E-tron Performance: Interesting New Alternative

Instead of launching an expensive e-tron hospital model, Audi now plans to create a new variant called the S6 e-tron Performance (or similar name). This model is expected to be able to present the expected high performance of an executive car, but without a record-breaking development cost burden.

This decision allows Audi to lower financial risks and avoid the major pressure that accompanies the development of a pure hospital model. However, Audi fans who are looking forward to RS 6 e-tron may be disappointed.

Instead, Audi will prioritize the launch of plug-in hybrid models, such as RS 5 at the end of this year and RS 6 in 2026. These models are considered more promising in terms of sales volume, which is a strong reason behind Audi's business decisions.
