Earthquake M 4.9 Landa Mukomuko, Great Vibrations Can Be Felt To Padang
JAKARTA - A tectonic earthquake rocked the Southwest Coast of Mukomuko City, Bengkulu, on Sunday, September 14 at 21:49 WIB. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 4.9 with a depth of 57 kilometers.
The epicenter of the earthquake was at coordinates 2.85 degrees south latitude and 100.87 degrees east longitude, or about 40 kilometers southwest of Mukomuko. BMKG explained that this earthquake was a shallow type of earthquake due to the subduction activity of the Indo-Australian mesilihrus, with a thrust fault mechanism.
Guncangan was felt quite strongly in Mukomuko with intensity IV MMI, which caused strong vibrations that caused objects to break, doors and windows to bang, and walls to sound. Vibrations were also felt in the Full River, Kerinci, Padang, Pesisir Selatan, Solok, and South Solok on the MMI III scale, as well as in Ipuh on the MMI II scale.
