Indonesia Becomes The First Country To Implement VAR In The Second Caste League
JAKARTA - Indonesia has received a positive note, because it became the first country in the Asian continent to use the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) in the second caste league of football. This was revealed by the General Chairperson (Ketum) of PSSI, Erick Thohir.
"We are the only league 2 to use VAR in Asia," said Erick Thohir in a statement at the opening of the 2025/2026 Championship, quoted on Saturday, September 13.
According to Erick, the use of VAR in the second caste league is a tangible form of development in the history of Indonesian football. Meanwhile, around the world, he said that Indonesia is the fifth country to implement the VAR system in the second tier league.

"Worldly. We go fifth, if in Europe it's Serie A. For the Premier League, the second league hasn't. So thank you to the league that continues to improve after League 1 uses VAR now in League 2 as well," said Erick.
Meanwhile, Director of I-League Ferry Paulus at the 2025 Championship launch believes that the use of VAR in the second caste will make Indonesian football more qualified.
"So that football can make a positive contribution, it can also be an interesting spectacle," said Ferry.
This season's Championship will be followed by 20 teams divided into two groups, the West and the East. The system used is a tripple round robin and not a double round robin like last season.
The practice is that each team in one group will meet three times or during a season undergo 27 matches. For example, the first round of homes and the second round of homes.
In the third round, the top five teams will act as hosts, while the other five teams will undergo away matches. Of these three rounds are looking for the best.
Those who are ranked first in the group will advance to the final round to fight for the status of champions of the Championship, while runners up will play off promotions to the Super League.
While the bottom team from each group is automatically relegated to League 3. The ninth place will face each other in a play-off or relegation.
