Trump Host PM Qatar Dinner After Israeli Attack In Doha

JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump hosted Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in New York on Friday (12/9). Qatar's deputy mission chief in the US, Hamah Al-Muftah, said the meeting was going well.

"A great dinner with POTUS (US President). It's just finished," Al-Muftah wrote on platform X.

The White House confirmed the meeting, but did not elaborate. The meeting took place following Israeli airstrikes last Tuesday targeting high-ranking Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Doha, the capital of Qatar.

The attack drew widespread criticism from the Middle East region and the international community. Trump previously also expressed great disappointment with Israel. He called the attack a unilateral act that did not benefit the interests of the US and Israel.

The Israeli attack killed five members of Hamas and a Qatar security official who was discussing a new US proposal to end the war in the Gaza Strip.

Since October 2023, more than 64,000 Palestinians have died in the region due to Israeli aggression. Qatar has become the main mediator in negotiations to end the war.

Prior to dinner with Trump, Sheikh Mohammed met with US Vice President JD Vance and Foreign Minister Marco Rubio at the White House.
