Commission I Of The House Of Representatives Will Explore Komdigi's Proposal On The AI Content Checking Feature On Digital Platforms

JAKARTA Member of Commission I DPR RI Syamsu Rizal, said that his party pays serious attention to the steps taken by the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi) which asks global digital platforms to provide checking features to recognize content created by artificial intelligence (AI). According to him, this step will be discussed further in joint meetings with the relevant ministries to formulate comprehensive and applicative policies.

"Commission I will certainly explore this proposal. We will ensure that there are strong regulations and cooperation between the government, the DPR, and digital platforms, so that our digital space remains healthy, safe, and credible," said Syamsu Rizal to reporters, Saturday, September 13.

Syamsu Rizal, who is familiarly called With Ical, also provides full support for the Komdigi initiative. He considered that the proposal was in line with the urgent need of the community in the midst of the increasing abuse of AI technology, especially in the form of deepfakes.

According to him, this technology does present extraordinary innovations, but also opens up a dangerous space for information manipulation if it is not controlled.

"We cannot turn a blind eye to the increasingly sophisticated deepfake phenomenon. Photos, videos, and even sounds can be engineered in such a way that it is difficult to distinguish from the original. Without checking features, people will find it increasingly difficult to distinguish truth and lies in the digital space," said the legislator from the South Sulawesi I electoral district.

Furthermore, Deng Ical emphasized that global digital platforms have a moral and social responsibility to ensure public security and trust in the content in circulation. He believes that special features that can mark AI-made content can be a preventive solution so that people are not easily trapped in false information.

"With the checking feature, the public can quickly find out which content is truly authentic, and which ones are fake or AI engineering results. This is important to maintain digital literacy while reducing the potential for technology abuse," he said.

In addition to the technical aspect, Deng Ical assessed, efforts to control AI content must also be accompanied by an increase in public digital literacy education. According to him, people need to be provided with critical abilities so that they are not easily consumed by hoaxes or digital manipulation.

"Technical policies alone are not enough. Public education and digital literacy must also be strengthened. If people are critical and digitally literate, then the potential negative impact of AI can be minimized," he explained.

In addition, said Deng Ical, there needs to be an acceleration of literacy, so that people have the ability to become gate holders to capture the information needed. He stated that the DPR will continue to oversee the development of digital technology in order to provide the maximum benefit to the community, without compromising the safety of information and the quality of democracy in Indonesia.

"Supervision of activities in the digital space is very much needed. The government must also immediately form a supervisory board in accordance with the PDP Law," he said.

Previously, Deputy Minister of Communication and Digital Affairs (Wamenkomdigi) Nezar Patria asked global digital platforms to provide content checking features created by artificial intelligence. This is because the spread of deepfake content is very widespread.

Based on data from Sensity AI, it recorded an increase of 550 percent of deepfake content in the last five years.
