After Implementing Facial Recognition Technology, KAI Saves 5,502 Ticket Papers Until August 2025
By utilizing facial recognition technology to make it easier for passengers to enter the train, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (Persero) Operational Area 1 Jakarta reduces the use of 5,502 ticket paper rollers from January to August 2025.
KAI Daop 1 Jakarta Public Relations Manager, Ixfan Hendriwintoko in Jakarta, Saturday said that facial recognition technology is to facilitate the entry of passengers into the train or face recognition boarding gate is implemented at Gambir Station, Pasar Senen Station, and Bekasi Station.
The savings of 5,502 ticket paper is equivalent to a cost of Rp. 81,234,298. With this facility, it is enough for customers to scan the face on a face scanner to perform the boarding process without the need to print a physical ticket," he said, quoted from ANTARA, Saturday, September 13.

Ixfan said that all long-distance train departure stations (KAJJ) have also provided barcode boarding pass scanning facilities.
This feature allows passengers to board only by scanning the e-boarding pass that can be obtained after purchasing a ticket through the Access by KAI application on their respective cellphones or devices.
In addition to operational cost efficiency, the use of technology that reduces paper use also contributes to reducing paper waste and reducing carbon footprint from the production process and physical ticket distribution.
KAI Jakarta noted that an average of 275,100 passengers per month have used this digital boarding service.
