From The Main Singer To A Background Singer In Maliq & D Essentials, This Is Kamga Mo's Explanation

JAKARTA - Turning from the lead singer to background singer (backing vocal) may be seen as a setback for some people, but not so for Kamga Mo.

As is known, Kamga became the lead singer in the vocal group Tangga, which debuted in 2005 and managed to release five studio albums until 2014.

After Tangga was disbanded, Kamga had founded two other groups, Near and Hondo. He also works behind the scenes as a vocal director for many well-known singers.

But what made Kamga's musical career interesting was his decision to become a permanent background singer for many stage performances of the Maliq & D Essentials.

According to Kamga, there are still many people who think of the background singer's position with a wrong point of view. However, he understood this assumption because many major singers were not found to change positions as background singers.

"According to me, what do people think about vocal backing, it's not from their skills and not from their interests in a band, but more because they see that being a vocalist is cool," said Kamga when met at Senayan, South Jakarta recently.

"And maybe it's rare for people from the main vocalists to change their careers to vocal backing. So, I still understand the question of why do I want to be backing vocals or all kinds of things," he continued.

Furthermore, Kamga said that his initial goal of entering the world of music was to be able to live from music. And being part of the Maliq & D Essentials he sees as a separate achievement in his career.

"Indeed, I've always dreamed of working in music. And according to me, it's a part of even though the small part of Maliq & D'Escentials is a very proud thing," he said.

"Maybe I can't really explain to people who don't experience that. But when you are really in love with a band, suddenly you are invited to be part of the band, in my opinion there is nothing other than feeling grateful for this opportunity," concluded Kamga.
