Minister Of Trade Regarding IPhone 17: Import Permits If According To Procedures, We Will Be Processed

JAKARTA - Minister of Trade (Mendag) Budi Santoso said the government would grant import permits from the iPhone 17.

However, he said, Apple must comply with procedures or requirements to obtain import approval (PI).

"Anyway, if according to the procedure, we will process it," Budi said at the Ministry of Trade, Jakarta, Friday, March 12.

Budi emphasized that this import permit procedure must have recommendations from the relevant ministries. He said that if the recommendations had been completed, the PI would be processed by the Ministry of Trade.

"The imports (permit) are imported, if there are recommendations from anywhere as long as the recommendations are complete, we have processed them," he said.

Previously, Apple officially released their latest line, the iPhone 17, with two leading variants of the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, Tuesday, September 9, 2025.

Indonesia as one of the potential iPhone markets can't wait for the presence of this sophisticated mobile phone in the country.

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) has confirmed that the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) certificate for the iPhone 17 will be published tonight, Thursday, September 11.

The administrative process, which is the main requirement before the official equipment is marketed in the country, is now entering its final stage.

Head of the Center for the Use of Domestic Products (P3DN) of the Ministry of Industry, Heru Kustanto, confirmed that Apple had registered the iPhone 17 Series file to obtain a TKDN certificate.

"The iPhone 17 has registered (TKDN certificate), there are four files registered for the iPhone 17. Hopefully this afternoon it will be finished for the review. After returning from here I will check, when it is finished I will immediately approve out. tonight we can also exit (TKDN certificate) for four units," said Heru when met at the Ministry of Industry office, Jakarta, Thursday, September 11.

Even so, people still have to be patient to be able to buy the iPhone 17 officially in the country.

After the TKDN certificate was issued, Apple still had to go through other licensing stages, including postal certification issued by the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (Komdigi).

Awal Oktober paling lama," ungkapnya.

According to Heru, the issuance of postal certificates usually takes longer. In addition, Apple also needs time to regulate the distribution of devices from abroad to Indonesia.

Therefore, he said, the official launch of the iPhone 17 in Indonesia is expected to only be carried out in early October 2025.

"Usually they will apply for a distribution permit to Komdigi. When it is finished, goods just enter Indonesia. Komdigi needs a process, then send it to Indonesia. A week should have been completed. Early October is the longest," he said.
