Car Emergency Triangle Function, Use Rules, And How To Install It
YOGYAKARTA - While on the way, you may have seen a safety triangle sign installed behind the car on the highway. This is a sign or signal to other motorists around. Especially if the car stops at the shoulder until the middle of the road. So what is the real function of the car's emergency triangle? Check out the review below.
The fitted safety triangle can be a sign that the car is in an emergency so it has to stop. Cars that stop can be caused by a malfunction.
However, not many understand the real function of the safety triangle. In addition, this safety triangle must be installed because there is indeed a legal basis that regulates it.
The safety triangle is a road safety device used to alert other vehicle drivers that a vehicle is on strike or stops on the road.
Usually, this triangle is mounted on the road and positioned behind a stalled or strike vehicle as a sign for other drivers about the existence of the vehicle. In addition, the safety triangle is set in a bright color such as red or orange and is made of material that is weather resistant and long-lasting.
This is an important part of efforts to maintain driver safety and avoid the risk of road accidents.
The function of the safety triangle will make other motorists determine the necessary precautions, for example reducing speed, slowing down their vehicle speed, so that bad chances such as successive collisions can be avoided. For example, if it happens in toll road areas, where cars generally travel at high speed.
This function is also implemented in many countries. Traffic regulations in various countries also require the use of the security triangle when motorists stop cars on highways in a state of emergency.
The legal basis governing the security triangle is written in Article 12 Paragraph 2 of the Decree of the Minister of Transportation Number 72 of 1993, which reads:
The same-sided triangular shape, made of materials that are not easily rusty, has a side length of 0.40 meters and a width of 0.05 meters, red with a hole inside.
Red should reflect light when exposed to light.
The use of the car's safety triangle has been regulated in article 57 paragraph 3 letter C of Law Number 22 of 2009. In its installation, this safety triangle must be placed in front and behind stopped vehicles.
In Article 121 of Law no. 22/2009, every motorized vehicle driver is required to install a safety triangle, warning lights, or other signs when stopping or parking in an emergency.
However, this rule basically does not apply to motorcycles without a train or side tub. With another explanation, the hazard light feature or danger signal is essentially not needed.
Everyone who drives a motorized vehicle and does not put up a safety triangle and the signal light will be subject to a maximum imprisonment of two months or a maximum fine of IDR 500 thousand. This rule is regulated in article 298.
For car drivers, if they do not bring a security triangle, they will be sentenced to a maximum imprisonment of one month or pay a fine of Rp. 250 thousand. This penalty is contained in article 278 of the same law.
