Vietnam Investigates Cyber Incident Targeting Community Credit Data

JAKARTA - Vietnam's National Credit Information Center (CIC), a unit managed by Vietnam's State Bank, has experienced a cyber incident, which aims to steal data.

The CIC itself is a unit that stores sensitive information such as general personal details, credit payments, risk analysis, and credit card data.

Currently, Vietnam's cybersecurity agency said it was still conducting a more in-depth review of the level of violations and their impacts.

Preliminary investigations show signs of unauthorized access aimed at stealing personal data, and the level of breach is still under assessment, Vietnam's cybersecurity agency said in a statement citing Reuters.

In a letter dated September 11, which was sent to a financial institution and seen by Reuters, CIC said it was investigating the incident.

The letter said it suspected the cyberattack had been organized by international hacker group Shiny Hunters, and noted that the group is known to target global companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Qantas.

However, CIC claims that the incident did not interfere with operations or cause any damage.
