FDA Approved, Hypertension Detection Feature Ready To Release On This Apple Watch Model
JAKARTA The hypertension detection feature, the innovation that Apple has added to its newest smartwatch, has finally received approval. The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officially gave permission.
The feature will launch next week on the Apple Watch Series 11, Apple Watch Ultra 3, Apple Watch Series 9, Apple Watch Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2. The plan, this feature will be launched in more than 150 countries and territories around the world, including the US, European Union, and New Zealand.
Launching from 9to5mac, detection in the form of hypertension notifications uses optical heart sensors to analyze the response of blood vessels to heart rate. The algorithm works passively in the background to collect data for a full 30 days.
After 30 days, this feature will notify its users if consistent signs of hypertension are detected. The goal is to provide valuable insights to users about their health and encourage lifestyle changes.
Through this notification, users are also expected to start treatment faster to reduce long-term risks. Apple also seems to believe the level of accuracy of the feature.
The tech company claims that the hypertension notification feature could alert nearly half of users with high blood pressure, especially those suffering from stage 2 hypertension. However, keep in mind that technology still has shortcomings.

This feature is not a formal screening tool so users should not believe the results are 100 percent. What's more, not all hypertension sufferers will receive notifications from the device.
In a test, this feature shows 95.3 percent specificity in the Normal category. This shows that the hypertension notification feature can still detect high yields in people who have not been fully diagnosed with hypertension.
At least, this feature helps raise user awareness and triggers them to establish proactive discussions with doctors. According to Apple, this feature is expected to tell more than 1 million people who are not aware that they are suffering from hypertension in the first year of its launch.
