F1 Champion's Porsche GT2 Racing Car Max Verstappen Auctioned
JAKARTA - The Porsche 911 GT2 race car at Clubsport owned by Red Bull racer and four-time F1 world champion, Max Verstappen, is now being auctioned. This exclusive car was offered by RM Sotheby's through their Sealed Drop platform.
Quoted from Autoblogging, Friday, September 12, the car being auctioned was the Porsche 911 GT2 Clubsport Hospital in 2019, a very extreme racing variant of the 991 generation Porsche 911 GT2 RS. This car was introduced to the Los Angeles Auto Show 2018 and is only produced as many as 200 units worldwide. By Porsche's motorsport division, this car is dubbed "the most powerful non-legly street GT customer racing car we've ever made."
The base is taken from the GT2 RS which is light and efficient, but the Clubsport version gets a number of special improvements for the race track. These additional features include larger wings, carbon fiber roofs, engine hoods, roll cages according to FIA standards, and racing exhaust systems. The car is assembled directly at Porsche's special motorsport facility on Fricht, the same place as other legendary racing cars such as 911 GT3 Cup and 919 Hybrid LMP1.
This car that was auctioned was the 65th unit out of 200 units made. According to the sale document, Max Verstappen was the first owner, who bought this car in August 2019 along with a set of wheels and additional spare parts packages. During its ownership, the Dutch racer used the car for a trackday with the help of the Elite GP racing team.
In fact, Verstappen and his father, Jos, were documented driving this car in a test session at the Barcelona-Catalunya Circuit in January 2020 for a Dutch documentary entitled Max Verstappen: Whatever It Takes.

RM Sotheby's will include a photo of Verstappen when signing the car, along with proof of its original ownership.
