83 Villages Potentially Experience Drought, Pelindo Expands Clean Water Program In Madura

JAKARTA - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Persero) or Pelindo presents access to clean water for hundreds of residents of Sumberwaru and Tampojung Villages, Waru District, Pamekasan Regency, Madura.

The implementation of this program is a continuation of the program initiated by PT Terminal Petikemas Surabaya (TPS) is part of the company's concern for drought issues in the region. This program was previously one of the programs that won Pelindo TJSL Community Development Awards in 2024 by TPS.

"Water is a source of life. With access to clean water, people can not only meet basic daily needs, but also increase productivity, health and education," said Pelindo Company Secretariat Group Head Ali Sodikin, quoted Friday, September 12.

Data from the Pamekasan Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) shows that 83 of the 178 villages in the region have the potential to experience drought every year. This condition prompted Pelindo to expand the coverage of programs that had previously assisted 96 families in Sumberwaru Hamlet.

Ali emphasized that this program is part of the company's TJSL focus in three main fields, namely education, empowerment of local communities, and environmental sustainability.

"Clean water access is expected not only to reduce household economic burdens, but also to support farming businesses, as well as improve family nutrition," he said.

Adding that the Department of TJSL Pelindo Head, Febrianto Zenny, said that the sustainability aspect was a top priority.

For residents with an average income of IDR 1 million to IDR 1.5 million per month, this program is an important support. Clean water is no longer a rare item, but a source of life that is able to improve the health quality and economy of the Pamekasan community.

Through this program, Pelindo formed a management group at the village level with clear governance guidelines. The hope is that the community can maintain and develop this facility independently, so that the benefits continue," he said.
