President Prabowo Affirms Commitment To Civil Supremacies To Face Military Emergency Issues
JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto emphasized his commitment to maintaining civil supremacy when responding to questions regarding the issue of martial law from the Nation Conscience Movement (GNB) during a meeting at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday, September 11.
The issue of martial law is one of the topics discussed in a three-hour meeting between President Prabowo and a number of figures who are members of the NAM.
"That's one of the points we convey (related to the issue of martial law), that the civilian supremacy must be enforced, and the President has repeatedly stated that his commitment to it is that the President is committed to upholding civilian supremacy," said Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, a member of the GNB who is also a former Minister of Religion met at the Presidential Palace after a meeting between the GNB and President Prabowo on Thursday night.
He invited the public to see firsthand the President's commitment and promise to continue to maintain civilian supremacy.
"We'll see in the future what it looks like, hopefully what he said, what he promised was realized in the implementation level," he said.
Regarding civil supremacy, NAM also highlighted military involvement in various civilian spaces. GNB conveyed to the President that the TNI must be placed as a professional soldier which means that TNI soldiers should not be burdened and busy with tasks outside of main duties and functions.
"To make (the soldier) professional, he has to focus. We (want) this TNI to be really strong in this nation. So, don't be busy with things that have nothing to do with its main roles and duties. So, that's essentially a manifestation of civil supremacy," he said.
The Nation's Conscience Movement also asked President Prabowo to immediately form a commission for Polri reform and form an investigative commission that independently investigated a series of riots in August 2025.
