GNB: President Prabowo Immediately Forms Police Reform Commission

JAKARTA - President Prabowo Subianto is claimed to immediately form a commission to evaluate and reform the National Police. Police reform is one of the demands of the community, including the National Conscience Movement (GNB) which consists of a number of national figures and interfaith figures.

The Nation's Conscience Movement directly conveyed their aspirations and demands from civil society directly to President Prabowo in a dialogue session, which was also attended by several ministers of the Red and White Cabinet. The meeting lasted for three hours.

"Earlier, the Nation's Conscience Movement also conveyed the need for evaluation and reform of the police, which was also welcomed by the President, (who) will soon form a team or police reform commission. I think this is also on the demands of a large number of people," said Pastor Gomar Gultom, a member of the NAM, during a press conference after the GNB meeting with President Prabowo at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Thursday, September 11, reported by ANTARA.

According to Gultom, the aspirations regarding Polri reform have also been planned and the concept has been formulated by President Prabowo.

"This is a tit for tat, yes, what is in (the Movement) of the Nation's Conscience also in my conscience," said the President. So, the hopes requested by the friends are also already in the concept, Mr. President. So, the term was a tit for tat, what these friends have formulated is what will be done by the President, especially regarding reform issues in the police field," said Rev. Gultom, who is the General Chair of the Fellowship of Churches in Indonesia (PGI) for the 2019 period 2024.

However, for technical details and details as to what, GNB handed it over to President Prabowo to explain to the public.

Not only the commission for Polri reform, but President Prabowo also agreed with the GNB proposal and the public regarding the establishment of the Independent Investigation Commission which investigated the August pre-hargage. The August tragedy refers to a series of riots on August 25, then August 28' 30, 2025 in Jakarta and other cities.

Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, a member of the NAM who is also a former minister of religion, explained that the independent investigation commission was important to form so as not to discredit the peaceful demonstrations carried out by the civil society coalition, including activists, students, and students.

"The demonstration is actually students, activists are peaceful as they usually express their demands, it is something that is guaranteed by the constitution. Then it turns into acts of violence, destruction of public facilities, even looting and so on, burning, and it then creates slander, accusations of all kinds of things. That's why then in order to eliminate all slander, accusations, accuse each other of each other, then it must be investigated," said Lukman.
