Michelin And Mercedes-AMG Create Record For Electric Car Resilience, Traveling Around The World In 8 Days

JAKARTA - A historic achievement was born on the Nard total circuit, Italy, when Michelin and Mercedes-AMG collaborated to set a new record in the world of electric cars. Relying on the Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept car equipped with the latest generation of driving technology, both managed to cover a distance of 40,075 kilometers equivalent to Earth' in less than eight days.

This success cannot be separated from the role of Michelin's latest tire, Sport 5 energy Pilot, which was specially designed to support the extreme performance of the AMG GT XX. This tire combines consistency, energy efficiency, and extraordinary durability, making it the foundation for Michelin's new commercial tire line which will launch in 2026.

The challenging journey with a constant speed of up to 300 km/hour on the 12.6 km track is a tough test, not only for cars, but also for tires. During the five years of development, Michelin designed tires with vehicle-band dynamic simulation technology as well as a high-precision manufacturing process. The two-componite tread structure used provides optimal balance: the outside utilizes the latest Energy Passive Compound to suppress energy consumption, while the center uses the Adaptive Grip Compound for maximum grip on dry and wet trajectories.

The tires measuring 265/40 ZR20 in front and 295/40 ZR20 behind are also equipped with RFID chips, enabling real-time monitoring of conditions throughout the trial. Michelin's technical support was fully underway, with a team of engineers and technicians working day and night at Nard

This resilience record further confirms the close collaboration between Michelin and Mercedes-AMG that has existed for more than 30 years. For Michelin, this achievement is a real validation that innovation from the racing arena can be translated into sustainable technology for future mobility.

"Congratulations to Mercedes-AMG on this symbolic resilience record, where Michelin proudly contributed actively," said Serge Lafon, President of Michelin's Original Equipment Division, in his official statement, Thursday, September 11.

Travel around the world in less than eight days is proof that tires can present performance as well as energy efficiency, from the first to the last kilometer. This achievement is also an important milestone ahead of the launch of the new commercial tire line Michelin Pilot Sport 5 energy," he added.

For the automotive world, this collaboration is not just a matter of record. It is a concrete picture of how innovation, trust, and commitment can create new milestones in an effort to bring faster, more resilient, and sustainable mobility.
