DPR Member: TNI Plan To Report Ferry Irwandi Doesn't Need To Continue

JAKARTA Member of Commission III of the DPR Abdullah assessed that the TNI's plan to report the CEO of Malacca Project and Influencer, Ferry Irwandi, to the police regarding the alleged criminal act of defamation from his opinion on social media does not need to be continued.

According to members of the commission in partnership with the National Police, the plan to report to Ferry Irwandi is not in accordance with the legislation.

"I think it does not need to be continued, because the reporting plan is not in accordance with the 1945 Constitution, the TNI Law and the Constitutional Court Decision Number 105 / PUU-XXII / 2024," Abdullah said, Thursday, September 11.

Apart from the TNI having no legal standing, Abdullah said, the alleged criminal act of defamation does not apply to institutions based on the Constitutional Court's decision.

According to him, this reporting plan has the potential to narrow the space for democracy.

Abdullah was worried that this reporting plan would actually make civilians afraid or extra careful in expressing their opinions in the future.

"Even though gathering and expressing opinions is a protected right (UU), and this is a mechanism that must be implemented to continue to improve the quality of democracy through the participation of the people and checks and balances between institutions," Abduh explained.

This PKB legislator also continues to encourage all parties to always be professional.

"This means respecting civil supremacy, respecting human rights and adhering to the nation's identity," concluded Abduh.
