Water Channels On DI Panjaitan Road To Overcome Floods

JAKARTA - The East Jakarta Water Resources Sub-dept. began carrying out construction work on the canal construction on Jalan DI Panjaitan to deal with repeated flooding on roads.

"The East Jakarta Water Resources Agency has carried out the construction of channels on Jalan DI Panjaitan in the context of handling inundation and repeated flooding on Jalan DI Panjaitan," said Head of the Development and Development Section of the East Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-dept., Tengku Saugi Zikri, ANTARA, Thursday, September 11.

This project was carried out from the front of the Patria Park Apartment to the Brantas Pump House and a cross section from the front of the Jatinegara District Office to the UP4 DSDA Office, South Cipinang Besar Village.

The construction of this channel is a step in dealing with flooding in the area. However, due to the existence of underground cable assets belonging to PLN, the 'trase jacking' which was originally in the regular lane had to be moved," he said.

The "jacking" method is the installation of pipes by drilling the ground beneath the road and then pushing the pipe using hydraulic pressure.

If it rains heavily, said Saugi, the DI Panjaitan road area still often floods with a height of about 70-80 centimeters (cm).

In addition, based on information from PLN UPP JB2 along Jalan DI Panjaitan, there are 150 kV Cawang Baru-AGP and 150 kV Cawang Baru-Taman Rasuna underground transmission cable assets.

This cable is the main supply of electricity to Jakarta and does not allow for a reroute.

To protect these assets while ensuring that the construction of the canal continues, the East Jakarta Natural Resources Sub-dept. (Sudin) decided to move the "trase jacking" and pit locations to the busway lane.

This transfer has an impact on changes in traffic engineering management. The DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency (Dishub) together with the SDA Sub-Department will enforce traffic regulations from September 10, 2025 to February 13, 2026.

"For the 'crossing' work from the front of the Jatinegara District Office to the UP4 Office, the work is only done on 'window time' at 22.00-04.00 WIB. In the morning, the lane is closed with a plate so that vehicles can still be crossed," he said.

Saugi appealed that people could still adjust their trips and comply with traffic signs and directions from officers.
