A total of 17 heavy vehicles, especially cargo trucks, were caught in an emission test operation in the industrial area of PT Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung (JIEP), Cakung, East Jakarta, Wednesday, September 10.
Drivers and owners of vehicles that failed the test were threatened with imprisonment for up to six months or a maximum fine of IDR 50 million.
Head of the Civil Servant Investigators Division (PPNS) of the DKI Jakarta Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP), RM Tamo Sijabat in a statement in Jakarta, Thursday, said that a total of 50 vehicles were inspected and 17 vehicles failed to meet the emission quality standards.
"The majority of vehicles that do not pass are goods vehicles, such as container trucks, trucks like being closed, to tank trucks, according to the characteristics of this industrial area," said Tamo, quoted by ANTARA, September 11.
All drivers and vehicle owners who violate will immediately undergo a legal process.
"All violators will undergo a trial for minor crimes (tipiring) at the East Jakarta District Court on Thursday, October 9," said Tamo.
The joint operation was carried out by the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency (DLH) together with the Satpol PP, the Transportation Service (Dishub) and the Sub-Directorate of Law Enforcement (Sub-Directorate of Gakkum) of the Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas) Polda Metro Jaya.
This operation is a form of enforcement of Regional Regulation Number 2 of 2005 concerning Air Pollution Control.
The head of DLH DKI Jakarta, Asep Kuswanto, said that heavy duty vehicles are one of the biggest contributors to air pollution in Jakarta.
This law enforcement, he said, is a form of the seriousness of the DKI Provincial Government in suppressing pollution and encouraging compliance, especially in the industrial and logistics sectors.
