Semarang Toll Road Targeted To Be Fully Connected In 2027, Here's The Progress

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works (PU) targets the construction of the Semarang Toll Road Section 1 (Semarang/Kaligawe' Sayung) to be completed and fully operational in 2027.

The Toll Road Regulatory Agency (BPJT) of the Ministry of Public Works, explained that the construction of the Semarang Toll Road Section 1 is divided into three main packages. In detail, the 1A package carried out by Hutama Karya and Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) progress has reached 71.91 percent.

Then, the 1B package worked on by PT PP (Persero) Tbk, PT Wijaya Karya (Persero) Tbk or WIKA and China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) progress is already 50.03 percent.

Finally, namely the 1C package which was worked on by Adhi Karya and Sinohydro, currently the progress has reached 32.41 percent. This means that on average, the progress of the Semarang Toll Road construction "Demak Section 1 reaches 51.45 percent.

"The progress of the construction of the Semarang Toll Road, especially Section 1 which is above sea, continues to be accelerated. With the support of the flood control system and the retention pond, this project not only facilitates traffic but also protects hundreds of thousands of people from the threat of tidal flooding," wrote BPJT in its official Instagram account @pupr_bpjt, quoted Wednesday, September 10.

Unlike other toll roads, the Semarang 'Demak Toll Road has three uniquenesses. First, the toll road will be integrated with the sea embankment, serving to withstand tidal flooding that often occurs in the Semarang area and the Terboyo Industrial Estate.

Second, Section 1 along 10.64 kilometers was built over the sea with special construction technology. Third, the Demarang 'Demak Toll Road was built using millions of bamboo sticks as a seasoned layer foundation to strengthen the ground under the toll road in an environmentally friendly manner and accelerate soil consolidation.

"The Ministry of Public Works continues to support the development of this infrastructure as part of the PU608 mission that prioritizes connectivity, resilience and sustainability-based innovation," he explained.

The Semarang 'Demak' toll road project is funded through a foreign loan and state budget scheme.

Its dual function is very important for the region, namely to overcome congestion on the Pantura route as well as to act as a giant sea embankment that protects the Sayung, Demak areas, from tidal and flood threats.

Later, section 1 operations will be carried out in April 2027.
