Director Of Mixing Traditional Stories And Personal Fears For The Film 'Perempuan Pembawa'

JAKARTA - Director Fajar Nugros presents his latest film, Perempuan Pembawa Sikasi which will air this month. This film tells the story of Bahu Laweyan which is a Javanese cultural myth about someone's misfortune.

First, when Fajar shared his idea, he wanted to film the Indonesian legend we know very well, Didik Ninik Thowok. Then there is the myth of Bahu Laweyan and the legend of Bawang Merah Bawang Putih. Fajar always likes the story of Bawang Merah and Bawang Putih from the legendary story that we all know about," said producer Susanti Dewi at a press conference in South Jakarta on Wednesday, September 10.

As the second horror film, Fajar Nugros tries to bring his personal side where his fear at home is combined with traditional stories and folklore.

My second horror film and how I expressed fear in my childhood and how our audience felt that fear in our lives, said Fajar Nugros as a director.

"What happened to us was flashes in my mind and that's what I want to describe and I remember it like this. Maybe I don't know what the effect is, but I imagine something and remember something like that," he explained.

Raihaanun as the main character added that Mirah's character will be a reflection of women in looking at themselves in the midst of community stigma.

This 'marirah' is little by little like cutting onions. He also wondered why he had this misfortune until he became a detective. The one who ran into him was transferred after he died, what shape was he looking for because in other dimensions it was driven by Laweyan, "said Raihaanun.

The title of the intrigue brings deep messages and meaning to the audience, making the film Perempuan Sisel not just horror but also bringing stories about stigma and identity.

"Often we make women human, then women who are often labeled as sources of trouble, bad luck. How can a woman who is burdened with such labels. Exploration of this character is a very special creative journey," said Susanti Dewi.

Perempuan Pembawa Siasa tells the story of Mirah (Raihaanun), a woman who experiences bad luck because every man who becomes her lover will die ill-fated.

The film Pembawa Siaka will be released in Indonesian cinemas starting September 18, 2025.
