Microsoft Switches To Anthropic AI Technology For Office 365 Features, Reduces Dependence On OpenAI
JAKARTA - Microsoft will use technology from Anthropic for some artificial intelligence (AI) features on the Office 365 application. This is known according to a report by The Information on Tuesday 9 September. The move shows Microsoft's efforts to diversify its AI portfolio by combining Anthropic and OpenAI technologies on applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, after years of relying on OpenAI for new features.
Microsoft, known as OpenAI's biggest financial supporter with investments of more than $13 billion, is now also developing its own AI model and integrating DeepSeek models into Azure cloud platforms to meet AI's growing demand.
"As we have said, OpenAI will remain our partner for the leading AI models, and we remain committed to this long-term partnership," a Microsoft spokesperson said.

Claude Sonnet 4 is also said to be able to produce more aesthetic PowerPoint presentations than OpenAI's GPT-5.
Microsoft will pay Amazon Web Services (AWS), one of Anthropic's biggest shareholders, to access the Anthropic AI model. AWS declined to comment, while Anthropic and OpenAI have yet to respond to a request for comment from Reuters.
Microsoft plans to announce this move in the next few weeks. The price of AI equipment on Office 365 will remain the same, according to the report.
