Indonesia Wins 4 Gold Medals From The 2025 Boccia World Cup

JAKARTA The Indonesian boccia team managed to bring home four gold medals and two silver medals from the 2025 Boccia World Cup which took place in Seoul, South Korea, on September 1-9, 2025.

The gold medal was presented by Muhammad Afrizal Syafa in the men's BC1 individual class, Muhammad Bintang Satria Herlangga in the men's BC2 individual class, Handayani in the women's BC1 individual class, and the BC1/2 mixed team class represented by Felix Ardhi Yuda, Gischa Zayana, and Muhammad Afrizal Syafa.

Meanwhile, two silver medals were presented by Gischa from the women's BC2 individual class and Felix in the men's BC2 individual class.

The Indonesian boccia coach, Islahuzzaman Nur Yadin, appreciated the appearance of the athletes in this championship. He said this achievement was very important to maintain hope for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.

"We want all athletes to get on the podium so that our points increase. That way, we can maintain world ranking. As a team, we are already in the top three," said Islahuzzaman.

Islah, as he is familiarly called, said that the competition at the 2025 Boccia World Cup was very tight. Athletes participating in the 2024 Paris Paralympics will fight again in Seoul.

"However, there are still surprises at this event, such as from Kazakhstan for the men's and Hong Kong BC1 classes. This is an evaluation for us in the future," said Islah.

Handayani's Important Achievement

From a series of medal winners in Seoul, Handayani's name is the difference for Indonesia. Although his status is not a 2024 Paris Paralympics dropout, Handayani has successfully secured a gold medal.

In the women's BC1 individual class final, Handayani successfully defeated the bronze medalist at the 2024 Paris Paralympics from Japan, Hiromi Endo, with a score of 4-3.

This success also forced Singaporean Paris Paralympic silver medalist Yee Jeralyn Tan to return home without a medal from Seoul.

"Alhamdulillah, I was able to win a gold medal in this championship. Of course, this achievement is very memorable because this is my first moment to get a gold medal at the world level," said Handayani.

Handayani hopes to continue this positive trend to win tickets to the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics. The collection of points from the championship will continue until 2027.

"What is certain is that I must be consistent, maximizing performance in every championship, especially for the World Championships, must always go up the podium in order to increase rankings and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics," he said.

The Indonesian boccia team will then follow the World Championship agenda in Coinbra, Portugal. The important event is scheduled to take place from 7-17 November 2025.
