Manggarai Police Name 6 Suspects In Persecution Cases, 4 Of Them Police
LABUAN BAJO - Manggarai Police, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) named six suspects in the case of mistreatment of a young man with the initials KAS (23), a resident of Pitak Village, local district.
"Six people have been named as suspects and immediately detained in the detention room of the Manggarai Police," said Deputy Chief of the Manggarai Resort Police (Wakapolres) Commissioner Mei Charles Sitepu as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 10.
He added that six people as suspects consisted of four active police officers from the Manggarai Police with the initials AES, MN, B, and MK as well as two other suspects who were casual daily employees (PHL) in the Manggarai Police with the initials PHC and FM.
Mei explained that the victim's family reported the case to the Manggarai Police. The suspects reportedly assaulted the victim on Sunday (7/9).
"Following up on the report, the Manggarai Police Criminal Investigation Unit moved quickly to carry out an investigation until it was raised to the investigation stage," he said.
For their actions, he continued, the suspects were subject to Article 170 paragraph (2) to 2 Jo 351 paragraph (2) in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) of the 1st Criminal Code concerning persecution which resulted in serious injuries, in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1st of the Criminal Code concerning participating in criminal acts.
He added that not only undergoing a general criminal process, the four police officers involved in the case will face a trial for the police professional code of ethics. If proven to have committed a serious offense, they are threatened with dishonorable discharge (PTDH).
"Public crimes are still going on, after that it is just an ethical process, we want to ensure that justice is served indiscriminately," he said.
Furthermore, he explained that the investigation of the abuse case was carried out in a transparent and professional manner.
"There is no discrimination, intimidation or cover-up efforts and all processes are carried out according to legal procedures, the facts on the ground are clear, so we dare to determine six suspects, including our own members," he said.
He explained that the Manggarai Police Chief AKBP Hendri Syaputra had met the victim's family to apologize directly.
The Medical Section of the Police and Health of the Manggarai Police continues to monitor the health condition of the victim who is currently undergoing treatment at the Ruteng Hospital.
