Pertamina Inaugurates Groundbreaking Green Hydrogen Plant Pilot At Ulubelu
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk (PGE) officially conducted a groundbreaking for the construction of the Ulubelu Green Hydrogen Plant Pilot in Ulubelu, Lampung, September 9, 2025.
This facility is the first in the world to integrate the Anion Exchange Membrane (AEM) electrolyzer technology with geothermal energy as a clean source of electricity.
Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Yuliot Tanjung said, Green Hydrogen is one of the low-emission environmentally friendly energies.
Sooner or later, renewable energy will slowly disrupt fossil energy in the future which is Pertamina's current core business.
The development of Green Hydrogen will add to the green energy list but has the potential to influence each other.
With more and more alternative options, the public will certainly compare which ones are more effective and more efficient. More varied choices of renewable energy will provide benefits for consumers in choosing the need for energy sources that are much more qualified but have no negative impact on the environment," Yuliot explained.
President Director of PT Pertamina (Persero), Simon Aloysius Mantiri said, Pertamina proves that geothermal-based green hydrogen technology can be applied in real terms.
"This project is also the foundation of hydrogen business regulations, standards, and models in Indonesia, and is a new energy ecosystem that can be replicated in other regions," he continued.
