Total Investment Of Gresik SEZ And Kendal Tembus Rp190.9 Trillion

JAKARTA - The Gresik and Kendal Special Economic Zones (SEZs) have the largest investment progress in Indonesia.

It was noted that the total investment value in the two SEZs exceeded IDR 190.97 trillion.

Currently, there are 25 SEZs that have been operating spread from Aceh to Papua.

In detail, as many as 7 SEZs are in Java and 18 others are spread outside Java.

Of these, 13 SEZs of them are engaged in the industrial sector and 12 other SEZs are in the service sector.

"Biggest GRANDMOTHER, SEZ Gresik and KEK Kendal, because their investment in each KAEK is already more than Rp90 trillion and in the future, both in terms of investment, manpower and exports will be our mainstay," said Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs Susiwijono Moegiarso at a press conference, in Jakarta, Tuesday, September 9.

Susi, her nickname, said that the accumulation of Gresik SEZ investments until the first semester of 2025 had reached Rp100.85 trillion.

Meanwhile, the absorption of his workforce reached 41,022 people involving 32 industries. Where the largest investment comes from copper smelters and downstream and glass industries.

Throughout January to June 2025, SEZ Gresik has received an investment of IDR 11.2 trillion from the target of IDR 24.4 trillion throughout 2025.

From this SEZ, exports were recorded at IDR 8.2 trillion in the first semester of 2025.

"For the Gresik SEZ yesterday, PT Freeport inaugurated the world's largest smelter factory for the single line of copper processing smelters which has also started to be exported and is also used for industrial raw materials in the domestic area," said Susi.

Based on data from the Coordinating Ministry for the Economy, the development of copper downstream and precious metal SEZ Gresik has the potential for exports worth US$4 billion and import substitutions of US$2.3 billion.

In addition, there is the development of a smelter derivative industrial ecosystem in the form of sulfic acid, slag, gypsum and lead. Including, the development of downstream investment in renewable energy through solar glass production.

Meanwhile, the Kendal SEZ, continued Susi, the investment obtained accumulatively until the first semester of 2025 was Rp90.12 trillion, and employment reached 66,614 people involving 128 industries.

Meanwhile, cumulative exports until the first semester of 2025 reached IDR 14.34 trillion.

Throughout January to June 2025, investment reached IDR 5.12 trillion or 61.2 percent of the target of IDR 8.36 trillion for this year.

Meanwhile, exports have been realized, which is IDR 5.29 trillion.

Susi bilang, investor terbesar industri bahan baku baterai EV, PT BTR New Energy, anoda baterai litium kapasitas 160.000 ton per tahun.

Lalu, PT LBM Energi Baru Indonesia kapasitas produksi LFP 120.000 ton per tahun.

Kendal menjadi KEK dengan serapan tenaga kerja tertinggi di Indonesia.

“Ke depan KEK Kendal akan menjadi produsen katoda dan anoda terbesar di dunia. Jadi ekspornya sudah mulai dilakukan di tahun kemarin, 2023 sudah ada beberapa ekspornya,” ucapnya.

Susi said that the largest investor in the EV battery raw material industry, PT BTR New Energy, lithium battery anode has a capacity of 160,000 tons per year.

Then, PT LBM Energi Baru Indonesia production capacity of LFP is 120,000 tons per year.

Kendal became the SEZ with the highest labor absorption in Indonesia.

"In the future, the Kendal SEZ will become the largest cathode and anode producer in the world. So the exports have started to be carried out in the last year, 2023, there have been several exports," he said.
