West Sumatra Provincial Government Disburses IDR 1 Billion To Improve The Impact Of Payakumbuh Market Fire

SUMBAR - The Provincial Government of West Sumatra (West Sumatra Provincial Government) has allocated special financial assistance of IDR 1 billion to accelerate the recovery and relocation process of Payakumbuh Market after it caught fire on August 26, 2025.

"To support recovery, the West Sumatra Provincial Government distributed special financial assistance amounting to Rp1 billion," said Deputy Governor of West Sumatra Vasko Ruseimy, in Padang, Tuesday, confiscated by Antara.

In addition, he said, Nagari Bank also added Rp. 25 million, after previously distributing aid of Rp. 75 million. Then the local Regional Credit Guarantee (Jamkrida) also provided assistance of Rp. 50 million.

Meanwhile, the West Sumatra National Amil Zakat Agency (Baznas) distributed Rp200 million to help traders.

"This assistance is not to compensate for the total loss, but at least it can ease the burden on traders for the time being. Hopefully it can treat the hearts of the affected people," said Vasko.

Vasko said there were about 500 merchant stalls that were burned down during the unfortunate incident. Currently, the Payakumbuh City Government is in the process of relocating traders to new places, so that the wheels of the economy can continue to run.

Payakumbuh Mayor Zulmaeta said hundreds of Payakumbuh Market traders had been gradually relocated to Sutan Usman Street or near the local terminal.

"We estimate that this relocation site can accommodate around 300 traders," said the Mayor of Payakumbuh.

Zulmaeta said not all traders were willing to be relocated to Jalan Sutan Usman. Some of them chose to return to trading in the Padang Kaduduk area and elsewhere.

Regarding special financial assistance of Rp. 1 billion from the West Sumatra Provincial Government, he said it would be fully used for the merchant relocation process. Meanwhile, other assistance was handed over directly to traders.
