Former Mayor Of Cirebon Becomes A Corruption Suspect For The Regional Secretariat Building Project

CIREBON - The District Attorney (Kejari) of Cirebon City, West Java, has named the former Mayor of Cirebon, namely Nashrudin Azis or NA, as a suspect in the alleged corruption case in the construction of the local regional secretariat building (setda) for the 2016-2018 fiscal year.

The Head of the Cirebon City Prosecutor's Office, Muhamad Hamdan, said that the determination of the suspect was carried out after the investigation team found that at least two pieces of evidence were sufficient from the results of the development of the investigation of the case.

He explained that the evidence was in the form of witness statements, expert statements, letters, and instructions in the form of recordings related to the regional construction project carried out by the Cirebon City Public Works and Spatial Planning (PUTR) Office.

"Brother NA was named a suspect after a case was filed by the investigative team," he said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, September 8.

He stated that NA's role in this case was to order the technical team of activities, as well as the committee receiving the results of the work to sign the field handover report and the handover report on November 19, 2018.

In fact, he said, based on the results of the investigation, until December 2018 the construction work for the Regional Secretariat building had not been completed 100 percent according to the contract.

"But in the report document it is stated that the work has been completely completed," he said.

As a result of this action, he continued, the state suffered a loss of around Rp26 billion based on the results of an audit from the Supreme Audit Agency of the Republic of Indonesia (BPK RI).

Hamdan emphasized that the suspect NA was suspected of violating Article 2 paragraph (1) in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001, Jo Article 55 paragraph (1).

"NA was immediately detained at the Cirebon Class 1 Detention Center for the next 20 days for investigation purposes," he said.

He said the determination of the suspect added to the list of parties charged in the alleged corruption case in the construction of the Cirebon City Regional Secretariat building.

Previously, he said, the investigative team had also named a number of other parties as suspects in the same case, one of which was the Head of the Cirebon City Dispora with the initials IW.

He emphasized that the Cirebon City Prosecutor's Office is committed to completing the investigation of the alleged corruption case in order to provide legal certainty and community interests.

"The involvement of these suspects is carried out together, so that the legal process will run according to the provisions," he said.
