Debt Collector Who Keroyok Cooperative Customers In Kediri Arrested

JAKARTA - Police in Kediri Kota, East Java are still detaining debt collectors for alleged cases of abuse against customers of a cooperative.

"We secured four men. These people are debt collectors from the cooperative in Kemuning. Based on the information, the victim is delinquent 1 year," said Kasat Reskrim Kediri Police Chief of Iptu Rizkika Atmadha Putra City in Kediri.

The initials of the perpetrators are LHT (25) and DE (31), both residents of Padang Mas Village, Kabanjahe Subdistrict, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province.

Next, ARPG (21) residents of Hulu Village, Pancur Batu District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. Lastly, U.S. (26) residents of Kampung Dalam Village, Kabanjahe Subdistrict, Karo Regency, North Sumatra.

The case originated from a viral video on social media about the beating of RB (47), residents of Dermo Village, Mojoroto Subdistrict, Kediri City. Initially there was someone claiming to be from a cooperative messenger in Kemuning, Kediri City, collecting debts to the victims.

After that, there was a scuff in the victim's house. Someone claimed to be from the cooperative then left the house, then called his friends.

At that time, the victim also came out of the house. Once out of his house, suddenly one of the perpetrators hit the victim with a motorcycle until the victim fell.

After that, the other perpetrator ganged up on the victim until he suffered injuries to several of his limbs. The incident also went viral.

During the raid, the victim ran away. At the same time, residents help victims by preventing perpetrators. The case was later reported to police.

In that case, Rizkika continued, it detained four suspects directly involved. They admit to working as debt collectors. The victim still has arrears of debt that a year has not been resolved amounting to Rp1.2 million.

He also asked that cooperative owners and other services do not have to rent services from debt collectors because it can have a bad impact. One of them is the case of abuse as revealed by the ranks of the Kediri City Police.

"There is no need to use their services (debt collectors) because it is clear this phenomenon is a scourge," he said.

Police are still detaining the perpetrators. They are threatened with violating Article 170 of the Penal Code with the threat of a sentence of 7 years in prison.
