Russia Attacks Ukraine's Kyiv Thermopower Plant, Making Thousands Of Houses Extinguished

JAKARTA - Russian troops attacked a thermal power plant facility in the Kyiv region as part of an attack last night. The impact of the attack triggered local power outages and gas supply cuts.

The attack came a day after Moscow's biggest airstrike in a three-and-a-half-year war against Ukraine.

"The goal is clearly to cause even more difficulties for Ukrainians who love peace, make homes, hospitals, kindergartens, and Ukrainian schools without lighting and heating," the ministry wrote in the messaging app Telegram.

Rescue teams and technicians were working on site on Monday.

The Russian Ministry of Defense confirmed the attack had hit Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Moscow has routinely bombarded Ukraine's energy facilities since launching a full-scale invasion in 2022, which caused massive power cuts in previous years.

Ukrainian power grid operator Ukrenergo said Russia had attacked electricity infrastructure in several areas of Ukraine, which caused local power outages.

"Emergency repair work is ongoing, and most consumers have regained their electricity on Monday morning," he said.

Mykola Kalashnyk, the governor of the Kyiv region, said the attack had damaged local gas networks and more than 8,000 homes in eight settlements would be cut off from their gas supply over the next two days as long as repairs were made.

"Over the past few weeks, the enemy has attacked energy system facilities in various regions," wrote Serhiy Kovalenko, CEO of energy company Yasno, on X.

"Of course, no one knows what will happen this fall, but given the recent attack, there is no specific reason to be optimistic," he added in the next upload.
