Blood Moon 2025 Is One Of The Longest Eclipse Phenomenon In This Decade

JAKARTA The Total Moon Eclipse or Blood Moon is seen in Indonesia at night, precisely from September 7 to 8. This is one of the longest eclipse phenomena that has occurred in the past decade.

The total duration of the eclipse reached 82 minutes or about 1 hour 22 minutes. This phenomenon occurs when the Earth is right between the Sun and the Moon. This position makes Earth's shadow cover the entire surface of the Moon.

According to Thomas Djamaluddin of BRIN, the Moon did not become completely dark, but turned red. Thomas explained that this red color was formed due to the refraction of the Sun's light by the Earth's atmosphere.

"Only red light reaches the Moon because other colors have been wasted by the earth's atmosphere," Thomas explained, launching from the BRIN website on Monday, September 8. This drastic red rona that appeared made the Total Moon Eclipse dubbed Blood Moon.

Thomas also explained that this eclipse could be seen without the help of tools. In fact, people in strategic areas can enjoy the view with their naked eyes.

The Total Moon Eclipse is divided into several phases, from the penumbral phase, partial eclipse, to total eclipse. Each phase offers a different and stunning view for observers.

In addition to its visual beauty, the Total Lunar Eclipse can be an educational phenomenon. Thomas also encouraged the public to take this moment as an astronomical learning material.

"This is not just a spectacle, but a momentum to get to know the mechanics of the celestial body, the Moon's orbit, and the Earth-Sun-Moon configuration," said Thomas.

This eclipse is not only seen in Indonesia, but also in other regions such as Asia, Australia, Africa, and Europe. However, this phenomenon is only clearly visible in Southeast Asia and East Asia, while other continents only see part of it or not at all.
