President Trump Expects Gaza Agreement To Be Achieved Soon

JAKARTA - United States President Donald Trump on Sunday hinted at a deal in the Gaza Strip that Palestinians could soon be reached to ensure the release of all the hostages held by Hamas, having previously issued what he called the "last warning" to the Palestinian militant group.

President Trump, speaking to reporters after landing in Washington on Sunday evening after a short trip to New York, said he had discussed the matter on the plane.

"We are working on a solution that may be very good," he said.

However, President Trump declined to provide further details.

"You'll hear about it soon. We're trying to end it, and get the hostages back," he added.

As previously reported, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday he submitted a proposal to reach a ceasefire and a hostage exchange agreement in Gaza, claiming full Israeli approval.

"Israel has accepted my terms. It's time for Hamas to also accept," President Trump said in a post on his Truth Social platform.

"I have warned Hamas about the consequences if it does not receive. This is my last warning, there will be no other warning!" he said.

Under the deal, Hamas will release the remaining 48 hostages on the first day of the ceasefire in exchange for thousands of Palestinian prisoners imprisoned in Israel and negotiate a halt to the war during the ceasefire in the enclave, according to Israel's N12 News.

Palestinian militant group Hamas said it had accepted a new ceasefire proposal from the United States through mediators, expressing its readiness to continue negotiations.

"We accepted some ideas from the American side through mediators to reach a ceasefire agreement," the group said in a statement on Telegram on Sunday, quoted by TRT Global.

Hamas further said he welcomed every step that supported efforts to stop aggression against our people.

The group showed its readiness to "sit immediately at the negotiating table to discuss the release of all detainees in exchange for a clear declaration to end the war and the full withdrawal (Israeli troops) from the Gaza Strip".

Hamas has also approved the establishment of an independent Palestinian committee to manage the administrative affairs of the enclave and demanded that Israel ensure its commitment to what will be agreed upon in the agreement, "to prevent a repeat of past experiences in which an agreement was reached but later rejected or canceled".

President Trump told reporters he expected all hostages to be returned: "I think we will get them all."

He noted some may have died, but the goal was to repatriate their bodies.
