Ahead of Sovereignty Recognition, Palestinian PM Meets British Foreign Secretary to Discuss Two-State Solution
JAKARTA - Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa and newly appointed British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper discussed efforts to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
In the meeting, which took place on Sunday, September 7 local time, AN reported that Mustafa and Cooper also discussed preparations for the upcoming UN General Assembly, where several countries have pledged to recognize the State of Palestine.
The two also agreed to continue cooperation on the outcomes of a conference co-chaired by Saudi Arabia and France, to be held in July 2025, which aims to revive the peace process in the region.
Meanwhile, Britain plans to recognize Palestine at the UN forum this month unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in Gaza and engages in a two-state solution.
Wafa news agency added that Mustafa and Cooper also discussed the governance of Gaza City, which has been devastated by Israeli attacks, including Israel's continued offensive to take over Gaza completely and the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
According to both, there is a need for continued cooperation to stop Israeli aggression in Gaza, and concrete efforts to stop the expansion and annexation of illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
