Cangkul Gets Active Mortar, Garut Residents Survive Explosion Threat
The Bomb Disposal Unit (Jibom) Team of the West Java Police Mobile Brigade Unit destroyed an active mortar relic of war times found on residential land of Pameungpeuk District, Garut Regency, Sunday, September 7.
The mortar measuring about 80 centimeters in a diameter of 15 centimeters was first discovered by residents while hoeing the ground to build a house foundation in Leuwinnggung Village, Paas Village, last Saturday.
Head of Pameungpeuk Police Iptu Bangbang Sudarsono said the destruction process was carried out by the Jibom Team in Cibujal Block, Paas Village, safely and under control.
"The destruction process is safe and smooth, so it does not cause a dangerous impact for local residents," said Bangbang in Garut, Antara, Sunday, September 7.
Luckily, said Bangbang, the mortar was quickly recognized by residents so that it did not get hit or explode. The dangerous object was then evacuated and handed over to the Jibom Unit for disposal.
He emphasized that currently the discovery area is safe and residents can return to their normal activities, even though they were panicked by the mortar findings.
Bangbang appealed to the public to remain vigilant and immediately report to the authorities if they found any suspicious objects.
