Illegal Loan Advertising On YouTube Highlighted, DPR: Trap People With Fast And Easy Lure

JAKARTA - Member of Commission VI DPR RI Mufti Aimah Nurul Anam highlighted illegal online loan advertisements (pinjol) on a number of digital platforms, such as YouTube. Real action needs to be taken to prevent the spread of lure to the public as consumers.

"Until today, advertisements for illegal loans still appear openly on YouTube and social media. They trap people with the lure of fast and easy loans, even though they end up strangling them," said Mufti, quoted from the official website of the DPR RI, Saturday, September 4.

Strict action, Mufti said, needs to be done because it only provides socialization of the dangers of illegal borrowing is not enough. This is because the middle to lower class people are still victims of strangled flowers, rough collection to the spread of personal data.

In addition, illegal loans are included in the top three most consumer problems based on the 2024 National Consumer Protection Agency (BPKN) report. Thus, Mufti assessed that the termination of access alone was not enough.

Because, one illegal loan application has been cut off access, many other applications will appear. If that's all, there will be no end. There must be criminal law enforcement to create a deterrent effect," he said.

Mufti reminded that illegal loans are no longer just an economic problem, but also a matter of consumer protection and digital security. Significant decisive steps and collaboration with law enforcement officials are needed to take concrete action.

"There are already many folklore that have lost their wealth, until the household is destroyed because of illegal loans," he said.

"The state should not just be silent. The state must be present, the people need real protection," concluded the legislator from the PDI-P (PDIP).
