Surfer On Sydney Beach Killed By Shark
JAKARTA - A man who was attacked by a large shark on the coast of Sydney died from his injuries. This is the first incident in more than 3.5 years, triggering the closure of several beaches.
The unidentified victim was attacked just after 10:00 a.m. on Long Reef Beach, north of the Australian state capital of New South Wales.
"He was evacuated from the waves and taken to the beach; however, died at the scene," the police said.
Two surfboards were also brought in for investigation purposes.
It is not yet known what type of shark attacked the victim that caused the coastal closure on Saturday.

The death was the first in a shark attack in Australia's most populous city since a swimmer was killed on the coast in February 2022, Sydney's first death since 1963.
There were three other fatal shark attacks in Australia by 2025, according to data from state-run operators of the Sydney Taronga Zoo. In March, a surfer was killed by sharks in shallow water on a remote beach in Western Australia.
