Vladimir Putin: No Foreign Troops Needed In Ukraine After Peace Treaty

JAKARTA - Russian President Vladimir Putin said Friday there would be no more need to place foreign troops in Ukraine after the peace agreement was signed.

Commenting on the voluntary coalition'' meeting in Paris on Thursday (4/9), at the plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Putin said if foreign troops were stationed in Ukraine, they would be a legitimate target for the Russian military.

The Voluntary Coalition of the willing is a group of countries that provide military support to Ukraine and promise troops after the ceasefire.

"Regarding the possibility of a military contingent in Ukraine. If they appear in Ukraine today, they will be a legitimate target for the Russian military," Putin said.

If an agreement is reached that leads to peace, long-term peace, then I see no reason for their presence on Ukrainian territory. That's all. Because if this deal is reached, there is no doubt that Russia will fulfill it in full"

Putin again invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to meet in Moscow, calling the Russian capital the "best place" for the meeting.

If anyone really wants to meet us, we are ready. The best place for that is the capital of the Russian Federation, the city of heroes of Moscow," he said.

Putin said that recently Kiev rejected the possibility of contact with Russia, but is now asking for negotiations.

Responding to the potential concern for the security of the Ukrainian delegation, Putin promised to guarantee their full safety.

The Ukrainian side wanted this meeting and proposed this meeting. I said: 'I am ready, please come. We will fully ensure working conditions and security. The guarantee is one hundred percent,' he said.

At the same time, he called Ukraine's demands to choose the meeting location "exceed."
