Palembang Targets Citizens Not To Bab Carelessly In 2023
PALEMBANG - Palembang City Government targets by 2023 all residents no longer defecate (BAB) indiscriminately so that 107 villages can reach a ratio of 100 percent open defecation free (ODF).
Head of The Regional Research and Development Development Planning Agency (Bappeda R&D) Palembang Harrey Hadi, Wednesday, said that currently only 57 villages that have reached 100 percent ODF whose citizens do not defecate indiscriminately anymore.
"The rest are still trying to reach the 100 percent figure, but overall nothing is below 80 percent because the progress continues," he was quoted as saying by Antara on Wednesday, May 12.
According to him, the village that has not reached 100 percent ODF majority is on the outskirts of musi river, odf alleviation is quite difficult because some residents are still used to defecating in the river.
Various efforts continue to be made palembang government so that residents no longer defecate in the river or other open areas so as not to contaminate the environment, soil, air and water.
All OPD has been asked to help overcome sanitation issues that encourage people not to bab carelessly, he said, in addition to the assistance in making healthy latrines from the Ministry of PUPR.
"It will also be encouraged by the mayor's regulations to prohibit residents from defecating in rivers or in prohibited places," he said.
It targets in 2022 multisector coordination has also been established to accelerate the achievement of 100 percent odf village by 2023 so that Palembang will soon become a healthy city.
"That's a great PR in making Palembang a healthy metropolitan city," he added.
