Beware Of Web Phishing Disguised As University Login Portal
JAKARTA - Ahead of the new school year, global cybersecurity firm Kaspersky detected a phishing web page block targeting students and lecturers.
In this case, the attackers spread fake login portals that mimic the University's official website, tricking users into entering credentials that could result in data theft or loss of access entirely to their campus accounts.
"This fake login potential can look convincing, exploiting the trust students and professors put in their university system," Olga Altukhova, Senior Web Content Analyst at Kaspersky said in a statement received on Friday, September 5.
This fake portal is very similar to the branding and design of a legitimate university system. Usually, links to the University's phishing portal are shared via email or appear in web search results when looking for an institution's page.
If users enter their credentials on this fake academic portal, cybercriminals can steal sensitive data such as login details that provide access to university accounts containing personal information, academic records, and financial data.

The attacker can also change passwords, blocking students and professors from important resources such as college materials, emails, or payment systems.
Later, hacked accounts can be used to send phishing emails to colleagues, spreading attacks on university networks.
"We urge the academic community to remain vigilant and re-check the web address of their educational institutions to avoid losing data," he stressed.
