Corruption Suspect Rp2.25 Billion Bank Government Use Customer Money For Crypto Trading And Paying Debt

JAKARTA - Investigators in the Special Crimes Division of the High Prosecutor's Office finally named senior bank credit analysts belonging to the Parepare and Sengkang branches with the initials AWL as suspects for alleged corruption of Rp2.25 billion and were immediately detained at the Makassar Class I Detention Center, South Sulawesi.

"The determination of the status of this suspect is based on the Letter of Determination of the Suspect of the Head of the South Sulawesi High Prosecutor's Office Number: 90/P.4/Fd.2/09/2025 dated September 4, 2025," said Head of the South Sulawesi Attorney General's Office, Soetarmi, citing ANTARA news, Friday, September 5, 2025.

The suspect ALW, who is a senior credit analyst on duty at the Parepare Branch from 2020-2024 and in the Sengkang Branch from 2024-2025, was named a suspect after the investigative team obtained two sufficient pieces of evidence.

Based on the results of the examination, the suspect ALW allegedly abused his position to collect funds from customer accounts and additional book accounts for personal gain. His actions were carried out from June 25, 2021 to January 3, 2025.

The funds are used to pay off personal debts and as capital for crypto trading. For the actions of the accused, it has caused government Vank losses of more than Rp. 2.25 billion," he said.

After a health check was carried out and declared healthy by the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's team of doctors, the suspect ALW was immediately detained. The detention was carried out at the Makassar Detention Center for 20 days, starting from September 4, 2025 to September 23, 2025 according to the order of the South Sulawesi Kajati.

The suspect ALW is subject to multiple, primary and subsidiary articles 2 paragraph (1) and article 3 Juncto article 18 of Law number 31 of 1999 Jo. Law number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Corruption Crimes Jo. Article 64 Paragraph (1) 1 of the Criminal Code.

Soetarmi emphasized that the South Sulawesi Prosecutor's Office investigator team will continue to explore and develop this case to find other responsible parties.
