Accepting Academics And Characters Input, Mrs. Promises DPR Seriously Wants To Transform
JAKARTA - DPR Speaker Puan Maharani received an audience from a number of public figures across professional backgrounds to have a dialogue in the parliament complex today. Puan promised to carry out the transformation of the DPR seriously.
This was said by Puan in response to the demonstrations that took place in several parts of Indonesia at the end of last August.
The meeting for about two hours was attended by several names such as BRIN Senior Researcher Siti Zuhro, Deputy Chairperson of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) who is also a NU figure, KH Marsudi Syuhud, former PAN-RB Minister Yuddy Chrisnandi, to Communication Expert Effendi Gazali.
They are members of a forum called the Muj Council is Kiai Kampung. Puan was accompanied by the Deputy Speaker of the DPR Cucun Ahmad Syamsurijal at the meeting.
Puan expressed her appreciation for the input given. He considered dialogue like this important as part of efforts to strengthen public trust in the DPR.
"Thank you for being here to provide input in the midst of Indonesia being sad. I apologize if there are members who speak or apply less pleasingly. Indeed, there is some information circulating, but not everything is according to facts," said Puan.
Puan also explained a number of issues that had sparked a commotion, such as news about salary increases to housing compensation allowances for DPR members. He ensured that the allowance had been stopped and the DPR also imposed a moratorium on working visits abroad.
"There has never been an increase in salary. Regarding housing allowances, as of August 31 it has been stopped. Moratoriums have been implemented for foreign visits, especially by commissions, except for state conference agendas that really represent the country," explained Puan.
In the forum, Puan also explained that the DPR is undergoing a comprehensive institutional transformation process. One of them is also in the midst of strengthening transparency through the digital system.
All reports of open DPR activities and meetings have now been published on the DPR website. We really want to carry out institutional transformation. The DPR must be more open, aspirational, and accountable," he said.
Puan said the DPR would prioritize the quality of legislation and encourage meaningful public participation or meanful participation in the discussion of laws.
"We want to prioritize quality over quantity. But of course there are also laws that need to be discussed quickly because of the government's urgent need," explained Puan.
Meanwhile, Siti Zuhro as a representative of the Muj Council was Kiai Kampung explaining a number of things discussed in the meeting, including the dismissal of the DPR housing allowance which became public attention.
"And the most relief is that the DPR should no longer be elitist, but the DPR which is really a participatory who listens and opens up for two-way communication with the wider community," he said.
"We in Muj are Kiai Kampung, really convey the aspirations of the people in the local community to the village, not only to the village, about what they feel, need," added Siti Zuhro.
With the dynamics that has occurred recently, the Muj Council is Kiai Kampung which also hopes that the DPR will carry out its functions and authorities with a mandate. Including, said Siti Zuhro, in providing constructive supervision to the Government.
"We hope that the DPR will carry out the representation function, which is a very effective representative. This time we must not miss," he said.
"Civil society, all its hand-in-hand campus media, all of us intellectuals, professionals work hand in hand to support, support the realization of an effective supervision of the implementation of executions from the Government as well as constructive supervision that should be carried out by the DPR RI," concluded Siti Zuhro.
