Indonesian Friends Hope All Elements Of The Nation Maintain Peace

JAKARTA - The National Coordinator (Kornas) of Kawan Indonesia, Darmawan, invites all elements of the nation, including the mass media, to jointly maintain peace and not create narratives that can pit each other. This was conveyed by him regarding the incident of misunderstanding between Brimob personnel and members of BAIS TNI in the Slipi area, West Jakarta, on August 28, 2025.

"The incident in Slipi is purely a technical misunderstanding in the field and has been resolved well. Do not let it be exaggerated into a divisive issue. We hope that the leadership of Brimob in Jakarta can provide a wise clarification so that people remain calm where we have seen that the TNI has given a direct clarification by the Deputy Commander of the TNI," Darmawan said in a written statement received, Thursday, September 4, 2025.

According to Kawan Indonesia, the incident began when Major S, a BAIS TNI officer, and four members carried out the task of monitoring the demonstration in the Slipi Flyover sector. However, suddenly Major S was secured by a Brimob motorcycle patrol because he was dressed in civilian clothes.

After going through an identity check and showing a letter of assignment, the situation was immediately clarified. Identity is returned, both parties shake hands, and each return to their duties.

The facts on the ground show that after a brief dialogue, everything is finished with mutual respect. So nothing needs to be exaggerated, "explained Darmawan.

According to Darmawan, the need for an open attitude from Brimob leaders in Jakarta so that the public does not misunderstand the incident. He gave an example of the wise attitude of the Brimob leadership in South Sumatra in a similar case, where clarification was immediately carried out so as not to cause a prolonged misunderstanding.

"With a calm and open clarification, the public will increasingly believe that the TNI and Polri remain solid in the field," he added.

In addition, Darmawan also reminded the mass media not to rush to write news with one-sided information. According to him, the media should be a correcter in the midst of a dynamic situation, not actually making things worse.

The media has a noble role in maintaining unity. Convey the correct and complete information, do not let the wrong framing make the public provoked. Let us all be adults in responding to this incident," he said.

Darmawan hopes that all parties will take lessons from this incident. Misunderstandings on the ground can occur in security dynamics, but the most important thing is a big attitude to solve it well.
