Patrick Kluiver Disappointed Ole Romeny Absent On FIFA Matchday

JAKARTA - The main striker of the Indonesian national team, Ole Romeny, is confirmed to be absent from the September 2025 edition of the FIFA Matchday agenda. Regarding this situation, Patrick Kluiver as the coach admitted that he was quite disappointed with the absence of the Oxford United player.

On this FIFA Matchday agenda, the Indonesian national team is scheduled to face China Taipei on Friday, September 5, 2025, and continue with the match against Lebanon on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium (GBT), Surabaya.

However, on this agenda Ole Romeny was forced to be absent due to injury so he could not join the Garuda Squad. He was injured by getting a hard tackle and stepping on Arema FC's Paulinho Moccellin.

It happened during the Oxford United vs Arema FC match during the 2025 President's Cup. The injury caused a fracture in the leg and required Ole Romeny to undergo surgery.

"Unfortunately Ole cannot be here," said Kluivert on the sidelines of the Indonesian national team's training, quoted from a statement Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Even so, Kluivert ensured his team had other options to fill the position left by Ole Romeny. He also prepared Mauro Zijlstra who had just joined the first team as an alternative.

"It could be (playing Zijlstra), but I also have other players who can play in that position," he said.

He said Mauro Zijlstra was originally prepared for the U-23 Indonesian national team. It's just that, due to the problem of the registration limit, the situation made him immediately get a promotion to the senior squad.

"Yes, Mauro. Actually he should have played in the U-23 team with coach Gerald (Vanenburg), but unfortunately we couldn't arrange it. So, I took advantage of this situation and called him to the first team. That's good," he said.
